CELABRATION OF 3RD OF DECEMBER, INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
Abstract
This year as well, the Institute of Special education and rehabilitation celebrated the International day of persons with disabilities. In that occasion, two different events were organized by the Institute at the Faculty of Philosophy.
The first event was held on 03.12.2015 and was organized in collaboration with the students of the Institute of Special education and rehabilitation, Faculty of pedagogy “St. Kliment Ohridski” form Skopje, Faculty of architecture, Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Music. In the official part of the program, speeches were held by Stefani Nakova, student at the Institute of Special Education and rehabilitation, dr. Zora Jachova, PhD, head of the Institute of special education and rehabilitation and dr. Velimir Stojkovski, PhD, rector of the University “Ss Cyril and Methodius” – Skopje.
Beside the mentioned speeches, the event was enriched by the students from the Faculty of pedagogy “St. Kliment Ohridski” from Skopje with the performance of “Tajno moja” in sign language by Dzengis Memedovski and the presentation of Aleksandar Matovski called “Youth and the Down syndrome”.
The student Ema Ananievska from the Faculty of Music made a piano performance of the Chopin’s “Fantaisie impromptu”, and together with Igor Postolov form the Faculty of philosophy and Dzengis Memedovski sent a message from the students with disabilities called “Equal in diversity”. The name of their performance was the main motto of the whole event.
The Foundation “Prof. d-r Ljupco Ajdinski” presented 4 awards this year. The best student award for the generation 2010/2011 belonged to Anita Stojchevska, and also an award was given to the highest ranked student at the university admission in 2015/2016, Angela Nikolovska. The Republic Center for Support of Persons with Intellectual Disability was awarded for achievements in the protection, education and rehabilitation of persons with intellectual disability. The award for scientific research achievements was given to the Macedonian Scientific Society for Autism.
After the official part of the program, the students were organized in 4 corners for different type of disabilities (intellectual disability corner, hearing impairment corner, visual impairment corner and corner for physical disability). All the guests had a chance to widen their knowledge about the disabilities and experience the barriers of the persons with disabilities.
The second event organized by the Institute of special education and rehabilitation was a round table which took place on 04.12.2015 with the topic “Challenges in the education process in special schools in Republic of Macedonia”. The program of this round table was managed by dr. Zora Jachova, PhD. At the round table, beside the institute members, attended representatives from all the special elementary and high schools in Republic of Macedonia and the counselor for education of children with special educational needs in the Bureau for Education Development, mrs. Snezana Trpevska.
The first part of the roundtable was intended for presentations of all schools representatives and the counselor Trpevska. During the second part, a workshop with two working groups was organized and each group had to address and synthesize the main challenges in the education process in the special schools in the country. Moderators of the first group were Dr. Zora Jachova and mrs. Snezana Trpevska, and the second group was moderated by Dr. Daniela Dimitrova Radojicikj, PhD, and Dr. Natasha Chichevska-Jovanova, PhD. This roundtable was finalized by presentations of the working groups in order the allocated challenges and problems to reach the relevant institutions and to be resolved.
