Abstract

The article is a report of the analysis of the content of the textbooks for Macedonian, History and Nature and Society for elementary education from the perspective of their gender sensitivity. Eight randomly selected textbooks were analyzed in terms of the frequency of appearance of males or females, the activity of the two sexes, partaking of female and male authors, the number of main male or female characters in the texts, the roles attributed to both sexes as well as the personal traits ascribed to them according to their sex.
The results shov^ that the textbooks contents are gender biased from the perspective of all aspects that were analyzed. More over, no effort has been made to discuss the status of women throughout different historical periods, as well as their struggle for emancipation.
