The village of Melnica (read: Melnitsa) is situated in the region of Azot, near Veles, Central Macedonia. As an endogamous community it is already an interesting example through which one can perceive several aspects of the social, economic and ritual structure, especially in the recent condition and status of the woman in the public and family life as a part of the rural existence.
