XI AUTISM-EUROPE INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS

Abstract

In the period from 16^th to 18^th September 2016 in the historic city of Edinburgh the 11th International Congress of Autism Europe organized by the National Organization for Autism from the UK will be held. Theme of the Congress in 2016 will be "happy, healthy and empowered". The Congress will focus on the most recent developments in the field of autism, including causes, genetics, diagnosis, early intervention, treatments, education, support, employment, rights and policies, and many more. The improvement of the science, the rights and services for autistic people will be presented, and an insight into future developments of the events, knowledge and technologies for autistic people that may soon become a part of everyday life will be provided.
Plenary lecturers at the conference will be:
- Profesorot Fred R Volkmar in the session "State of Autism: Autism today - what we know and what we do not know?"
- Peter Vermeulen in the session "Focusing on positivity: measuring outcomes of people with autism from a different perspective";
- Wenn Lawson will lead the session "Autism and Aging";
- Profesorot Roy Richard Grinker in the session "The cultural origins and future of autistic spectrum disorders";
Profesor Liz Pellicano "Towards a New Science of Autism: Building a framework for participation";
- Profesorot Tommy MacKay will lead the session “Autism practice today - where are the gaps?”
- Gunilla Gerald in the session "Being a professional in the field of autism: what are the most important tools (and how to use them)”;
- Hejlskov Elvén, clinical psychologist, - “Influence of regulation and self-control: using low arousal approaches with people with complex needs”;
- Virginia Bovell, parent and researcher – “Healing vs. acceptance and ethical issues”;
The workshops will be led by:
- Diederik Weve, an engineer and an adult with autism – “Establishing work posts for autistic people”;
- Gina Davies, a speech therapist and counselor for sleeping – “Getting in early: the critical importance of early intervention in children with autistic spectrum”;
- Wendy Keay-Bright, Professor of Technology and Inclusion “Using technology to engage the pre-verbal children and adults”.
At the Conference, within ESIPP (Equity and Social Inclusion trough Positive Parenting) project, members of the Macedonian Scientific Society for Autism, the president of the Macedonian Scientific Society for Autism Prof. Dr. Vladimir Trajkovski and the vice president Jasmina Troshanska will also participate. On the sidelines of the conference, the fourth meeting of the transnational team ESIPP (Equity and Social Inclusion trough Positive Parenting) project will be held.
